A retired US Army Captain, Bishop Johnson, has urged political leaders and freedom fighters to work towards securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In an open letter, Johnson advocated for a political solution that upholds justice, equity, and fairness. He emphasized that failing to speak out against Kanu’s detention sets a dangerous precedent that may have future consequences.
Johnson’s appeal aligns with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s call for a political solution to Kanu’s case and the recent killings in Abia State. Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest in June 2021.
Johnson stressed that defending Kanu’s rights and dignity is crucial, regardless of his tribe, religion, or beliefs. He reminded political leaders of their responsibility to champion justice, equity, and fairness, warning that inaction may threaten democracy.
