The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has stated that President Bola Tinubu has not interfered with the Commission’s activities since he assumed office. Olukoyede made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
According to Olukoyede, the President has never called him to stop, impose, dictate, or prescribe any directive regarding the Commission’s affairs or activities. Instead, the EFCC has received substantial support from the Federal Government to fulfill its mandate.
Olukoyede assured Nigerians that the EFCC will hold political officeholders accountable for their actions and work towards curbing corruption in the country. He emphasized that the agency’s autonomy has enabled it to carry out its duties effectively.
The EFCC Chairman clarified that his actions are not motivated by personal reasons or a desire to witch-hunt anyone. Rather, his goal is to ensure that President Tinubu’s strategic plans for a better Nigeria are achieved. Olukoyede reiterated the agency’s commitment to eradicating corruption and promoting accountability in the management of Nigeria’s resources.
