6000 Black Workers to Sue Elon musk’s company

A California state judge ruled this week that Black Tesla employees from its Fremont, California plant can sue the company in a class action lawsuit for allegedly failing to address claims of race discrimination and harassment on the job.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Noel Wise said in a written order this week that the lawsuit presents questions common to all Black workers at the Fremont plant of whether Tesla was aware of the alleged misconduct and refused to take steps to prevent it. “Of the 240 plaintiff declarations, all stated that they heard the n-word at the Tesla Fremont facility, 112 state that they complained to a supervisor, manager or HR about discrimination, but only 16 made written complaints,” Wise’s order reads.

A lawyer for the named plaintiff, former assembly line worker Marcus Vaughn – who first sued Tesla in 2017 – said he looks forward to developing a plan for a trial in the case.

Tesla has said it does not tolerate workplace harassment and that it fired any workers who were found to have engaged in racial harassment.Credit: CGTN
