Francis Dooga, 72, a purported former soldier, is said to have hanged himself from a tree in his Makurdi home, which is located in the suburbs of the state capital, close to Saint Joseph Catholic Church Nyiniongun. The 72-year-old man, who was affectionately referred to as the “old soldier,” is said to have killed himself on Sunday night when his family was out of the house.
He had been grumbling about difficulties recently, according to a neighbour who said they called the police after they saw the deceased’s lifeless corpse hanging on a tree in his compound at around 6 p.m. on Sunday. They claimed It came as a big shock to all of them.
However, several people said that he had recently complained about difficulties and his inability to provide for his family, including his children and dependents. There were also rumours that he was defrauded of his pension funds by thieves, while other people claimed he was vehemently protesting that he was not getting his pension on time, which had a negative impact on him.
“These were circulating rumours, but nobody knows with certainty why the elderly guy committed suicide. “No one can rule out anything at this moment until investigation is concluded by the police and the cause of his death is known,” but we think the police will also look into the matter to find out what really happened. When contacted, Superintendent Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the event and stated that an investigation was still underway.
