200,000 passports are ready for pickup – Interior minister
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that there are currently 204,322 international passports available for collection, which is a significant reduction from the initial backlog of over 300,000 passports when he assumed office. Tunji-Ojo made this statement during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
He further disclosed that only 99,901 passports have been collected so far from the available pool, and he emphasized the importance of Nigerians picking up their uncollected passports.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo shared that the ministry is collaborating with the immigration service and their vendors to establish a system where, starting from next year, international passports will be delivered directly to the preferred addresses of Nigerians.
