The Obeagu community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is in a state of despair due to lack of basic amenities and access to essential services. The community is cut off from the rest of Ebonyi State due to the deplorable condition of the 15-kilometer road that leads to the community. Residents have to trek for hours or use motorcycles to access the community, making it difficult for expectant mothers, sick people, and children to get to school or medical facilities.
The community lacks access to healthcare facilities, potable water, functional schools, and electricity. The only secondary school in the community is in ruins, and teachers are scarce due to the dangerous terrain and frequent attacks by Fulani herdsmen. The community has been abandoned by successive administrations, and residents are calling on the current government to intervene and address their plight.
At least 10 residents have been killed and seven kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen due to the deplorable state of the road. The community is seeking help to construct drainage culverts along the road and repair the damaged transformers to restore electricity supply. They are also calling for the government to provide basic amenities and services to improve their living conditions.
