Access Holdings Plc appoints a new CEO after the death of Wigwe

The appointment of Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the acting group chief executive officer was announced by Access Holdings Plc on Monday.

This comes after Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the organization’s previous Group Chief Executive Officer, passed away.

Wigwe, his wife, son, and Abimboloa Ogunbanjo, the former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, perished in a helicopter crash on Friday.

The nomination was contingent upon Central Bank of Nigeria approval, according to a February 12, 2024, announcement from the company’s Board of Directors.

“Ms. Bolaji Agbede has been appointed as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) subsequent to the untimely death of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, on February 9, 2024, as per the Board of Directors’ announcement dated February 11, 2024.

A portion of the statement stated, “The appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

Agbede, an Assistant General at Access Bank since 2003, has almost thirty years of expertise in the banking and business consulting industries.

She worked for the bank in a variety of capacities, including Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022. In 2022, she was named Executive Director of Business Support, the position she held until her new assignment.

She graduated from the University of Lagos with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics and from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom in 2002 with a master’s degree in business administration.

In addition, she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Management UK.
