LANRE LAOSHE
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, has commended Lanre Laoshe, a former member of the House of Representatives, for repaying a student loan he obtained 35 years ago. Laoshe, an active member of Afenifere, repaid the loan of N3,189,217.00 (approximately $2,013.42) on August 27, 2024.
Afenifere described Laoshe’s action as “very exemplary” and a practical demonstration of Omoluabi, a Yoruba concept that emphasizes good character and responsibility. The organization noted that Laoshe’s decision to repay the loan, which he obtained between 1976 and 1979, shows his gratitude to the Federal Government for supporting his education.
Laoshe calculated the current value of the loan using the average annual exchange rates from 1972 to 1985 and the current exchange rate. He then remitted the equivalent amount to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, praised Laoshe’s conduct, saying it demonstrates his commitment to integrity and responsibility.
