The APC has responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of economic reforms and the Niger Republic coup. Obasanjo had expressed disapproval of the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, citing their negative impact on the economy and citizens.
However, the APC National Director, Bala Ibrahim, has faulted Obasanjo’s criticism, describing him as a “serial critic” who has consistently attacked every regime since his failed bid for a third term in office.
Ibrahim suggested that Obasanjo’s behavior may be a sign of senility, as he has a history of criticizing leaders while considering himself the only one who meant well for Nigeria.
Ibrahim pointed out that Obasanjo’s own leadership record was not without flaws, including the “balkanisation of the Nigerian economy” during his tenure. He questioned how Obasanjo could criticize Tinubu’s efforts to improve the economy, given his own past mistakes.
The APC’s response highlights the ongoing tensions between Obasanjo and the current administration, as well as the party’s defense of Tinubu’s policies despite their controversial impact on the economy and citizens.
