ASUU Strike: Panel to Meet to Discuss Matters Further

The Federal Government has established committees to address the concerns raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in their recent ultimatum. The committees will focus on resolving issues related to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and salary payments.

A meeting has been scheduled for September 11, 2024, to discuss these matters further. This development comes after ASUU threatened to embark on a nationwide strike due to the government’s failure to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement.

ASUU’s demands include improvements in welfare and university funding, as well as halting the proliferation of universities nationwide. The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, acknowledged that most of the issues date back to 1981 but assured that the government is working to address them.

The minister appealed to ASUU to approach the negotiation table with an open mind, considering the interests of all parties involved. The government has shown commitment to finding a permanent solution to these issues, as promised by the President during his campaign.
