Bauchi varsity graduating students beg VC for final results

The graduating students of Bauchi State University in Gadau have intensified their plea to the school’s authority, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Fatima Tahir, urging them to release their final academic results.

Allegations from the students suggest that their final year results were withheld by the school, accusing them of instigating a partial breakdown of law and order on campus recently.

According to Arewa PUNCH, some graduating students in Bauchi only discovered their results had been withheld after the university released second-semester results for the 2022/2023 academic session on Friday, January 26, 2024.

The students, who spoke anonymously due to fear of further victimization, claimed the university may have taken this action following allegations of disorderly conduct during graduation celebrations, leading to campus unrest.Expressing their concerns, one affected student stated, “It is not fair that the innocent ones among us should take the punishment of the unruly ones.

It is the duty of the management to escalate its investigations and fish out the real culprits rather than imposing blanket punishment on all of us.”Worried about potential further punishment and the financial burden of an extended academic session, another student emphasized the challenges facing them amidst the country’s hardships.

Despite acknowledging some mistakes made by their peers, the students pleaded with Vice Chancellor Professor Fatima Tahir to reconsider any planned punishments and to release their results.Efforts to reach Professor Fatima Tahir for comment were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls or messages.

The situation stemmed from a rally during the 2023 graduating ceremony, where an accident in Gadau town led to campus unrest, resulting in the school’s decision not to release results for graduating students. When contacted, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, declined to provide further information, displaying evasive behavior and refusing to clarify the allegations.

Arewa PUNCH also attempted to reach the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the University, Dr. Yusuf Musa Yahaya, who stated he had no information to share on the issue.Credit: Punch News
