The Nigeria Police Force has disclosed the reasons behind its inability to apprehend transgenders in Nigeria.
The police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated in a Tuesday interview on Channels TV that they cannot be taken into custody due to the complexity of the case.
He proved that cross-dressing isn’t illegal in Nigeria.
He added that although there may be claims that transgenders are also members of the LGBTQ community, there isn’t any concrete proof to support those claims, thus legal action against them isn’t possible. Certain instances are invariably exceedingly challenging to prove. Not that we don’t have a lot of them. Let’s be realistic: without solid proof against the person you wish to charge, you cannot have them. I’ve not come across any literature stating that crossdressing is illegal in Nigeria.
It is alleged that some of the people who participate in crossdressing are practicing something else. That is the source of the issue. To demonstrate that they are sincere in their interest, we must have sufficient and reliable proof. In Nigeria, all of above offences are considered natural crimes and are subject to legal punishment.
Adejobi’s remarks are made at a time when some Nigerians are questioning the morality of crossdresser Bobrisky, who was recently recognised by Eniola Ajao as the best dressed female at a movie premiere.
Some people like a Social media activist known as Very Darkman, has stated that if police fails to arrest Bobsrisky, then he will be forced to join crossdressers. Some Nigerians have been calling for the arrest of Bobrisky. Recently he won the best dressed female in a Movie Premier, which got many people wondering how a man won best dressed female in the midst of beautiful women.
