The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended two senior officers from the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos, following allegations made by convicted socialite, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in prison for abuse of the naira notes in April, claimed in a voice note shared by Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan, that his godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his sentence in a private apartment.
“My godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for me to serve my six-month sentence in a private apartment,” Bobrisky alleged.
The suspended officers are Michael Anugwa, the Deputy Controller of Corrections In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos State and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections In-Charge of MSCC Kirikiri, Lagos State.
In a statement, the board’s secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, said, “Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service.”
Ahmed added that two other officers were also suspended.
“Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Obinna, serving at the MSCC, Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.”
Additionally, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections, In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje-Abuja, was suspended for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.
Ahmed assured that the suspension is to allow for further investigation into the allegations, stating that, “The suspension of these Officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.”
