A devastating building collapse occurred in Abuja on Saturday morning, leaving several people trapped in the rubble.
The two-storey residential apartment, located beside Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was formerly a hotel and later a hospital before being converted into a residential building.
According to eyewitnesses, the building collapsed around 7:00 a.m., with many people still inside. Emergency responders and security personnel rushed to the scene, but rescue efforts were hindered by the lack of cranes, which were yet to arrive nearly two hours after the incident.
One of the lucky escapees, who wished to remain anonymous, described the terrifying moment: “When I woke up around 7:00 a.m. and came out of the house, I began hearing some cracks and then ran out.” She managed to escape unharmed, but many others were not so fortunate.
As of 8:45 a.m., two people had been rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others escaped on their own. The rescue efforts continue, with hopes of finding more survivors in the rubble. The cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined.
