MOBIN MEDIA is pleased to announce that the UK Government has given an approval to establish a Visa Processing Centre in Enugu as reported by Lawrence Njoku of the Guardian Newspaper on 11 September 2023. It was reported that the Secretary to the Government of Enugu State, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, disclosed the news. By approving the establishment of a Visa Processing Centre in Enugu, the UK Government has granted the request made by the Government of Enugu State and Ohanaeze Ndigbo to the British High Commissioner, Dr Richard Montgomery, during his two-day visit to the State from 27th to 28th June 2023.  During the said visit, the British High Commissioner had an interactive discussion with the State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah; Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Amb. Dr Lawrence Agubuzu; President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Dr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu; and representatives of the Civil Society Organisations on how the UK Government would strengthen the 20-year partnership that has existed between the State and the UK Government for mutual benefit. They explored areas of cooperation and how to attract investments and enhance economic growth and development of the South-East region.

The establishment of the UK Visa Processing Centre in Enugu will make it easy for the people of the South-East region who wish to travel to the UK either as visitors, tourists, students, businessmen or to join their family members in the UK. In recent times, there has been an increase of immigration activities between Nigeria and the UK and most of the migrants move to the UK.

Mobin Media sought the opinion of some Law Chambers in Enugu regarding the new development. One of such Law Firms that practise Immigration Law is Mekadolf Chambers located at Airport Road, Emene, Enugu. Our Media Team spoke to the Head of Chambers, Barrister Emeka Emekesiri, and asked him to explain in clear terms the benefits of the UK Visa Centre in Enugu. The Senior Legal Luminary said that previously, after preparing the visa documentations for their clients, the clients would be required to travel to Abuja or Lagos for their biometrics enrolment for the processing of their visas but now they would no longer need to travel to Lagos or Abuja. This will save their clients from unnecessary hassles and costs of logistics.

Barrister Emekesiri who practises in both the UK and Nigeria advised all people wishing to apply for visas to consult legal practitioners instead of using quacks for their immigration matters. He emphasised that Barristers and Solicitors are regulated and must act in the best interest of their clients otherwise they would be disciplined and may lose their Practising Licence. Therefore, the Legal Practitioners have a name to protect unlike the quacks that are not regulated by any authority. Mobin Media pointed out that the people patronise quacks because they cannot afford the legal fees payable to the Barristers and Solicitors. He said that some of the clients that have retained the services of Mekadolf Chambers were those who had been duped and defrauded by quacks and touts. After losing much money in the hands of touts, they will start looking for professionals to help them. He described it as “penny wise and pound foolish” because the money the people had wasted in the hands of quacks and touts was more than enough to pay for both visa fees and the legal fees. He advised the members of the public to always retain the services of lawyers for the Immigration matters.
