Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that Euro 2024 will be his final European Championship. The 39-year-old made the announcement after Portugal’s thrilling penalty shootout win over Slovenia in the round of 16.
Ronaldo had a chance to score in extra time but saw his penalty saved by Jan Oblak. However, he redeemed himself by converting his penalty in the shootout, which Portugal won thanks to Diogo Costa’s three consecutive saves.
When asked about his future in the competition, Ronaldo stated, “This will be my last Euro, of course. But I’m not moved by this. I’m moved by enthusiasm.” He expressed regret for the fans and reaffirmed his commitment to giving his best for the national team, whether he succeeds or not.
