According to K24 Digital Nigerian – International Musician David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has been arrested by the police in Nairobi Kenya. He was arrested on the 31 March 2024, after his performance at the Raha Fest on Sunday night. Davido was arrested alongside his seven crew members. He was arrested following a search on his private jet at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport ( JKIA) where white substances was found in his private jet.
The Musician was found with 3 kilograms of cocaine valued at Ksh18 Million. The white substance was found in his planes cabinet which was later confirmed to be cocaine. Davido and seven others that travelled with him have been arrested and detained for further investigation and arraignment, Muyiwa Nyawawa , the head of Anti-Narcotics police unit at JKIA told K24 Digital.
The musician and his crew were detained at the JKIA before being transferred to Embakasi police station in unmarked Subarus.
”Given that one of the suspect arrested is an International musician, we had to quietly transport them out of JKIA owing to the great sensitivity of the matter at hand. we had to avoid creating a scene at the Kenya’s main Airport that could have disrupted normal operations here” Nyawawa said.
Adding that ”we respect the suspects rights at all times. they will have their counsel present at all stages of the criminal proceedings, including during interrogation and pretrial proceedings.
Another police source told K24 Digital that the Anti-Narcotics police unit acted on information they received from the National Authority for the campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA). It was reported that NACADA was informed of substance abuse at the event where Davido performed on Sunday evening.
Some celebrities were spotted at the Fest smoking and using other illegal substances at the VVIP stand. Several complaints were lodged by concerned citizens after the brazen substance abuse by the celebrities and some revelers at the event.
Officials of NACADA sprung into action and arrested some people, of which Davido was among those arrested.
