Defence Academy Attack Mastermind Killed, Military Rejects Coup Speculations

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, declared on Thursday that those advocating for a coup d’état in Nigeria are adversaries of the nation, affirming the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding democracy.

In tandem with this assertion, the Kaduna State Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, revealed that the orchestrator behind the August 2021 assault on the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna had been neutralized by troops on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Gen. Musa cautioned against coup instigators within the country. He reiterated the military’s position, emphasizing its allegiance to the democratic government and disavowal of any coup-related endeavors.

Despite mounting economic challenges sparking concerns of military intervention amid widespread protests over escalating living costs, the Nigerian military maintains its stance against assuming power, underscoring its dedication to democracy.

Gen. Musa emphasized, “Whoever is making that call (coup) does not love Nigeria… the Armed Forces of Nigeria are here to protect democracy.”

While acknowledging the nation’s current hardships, Gen. Musa urged patience, assuring Nigerians that government efforts would yield improved living conditions. He rallied for unity in overcoming challenges, reiterating the military’s commitment to national development and peace.

In a concurrent development, Samuel Aruwan disclosed in a statement issued in Kaduna that troops, under the leadership of Maj. Gen. V.U. Okoro, intercepted and eliminated the notorious bandit, Boderi Isyaku. Isyaku, believed to have orchestrated the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy, was a longstanding menace responsible for numerous kidnappings and deadly assaults across various regions.

Aruwan detailed Isyaku’s reign of terror, citing his involvement in high-profile abductions and collaborations with terrorist groups. He underscored Isyaku’s role in orchestrating the abduction of students from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation and the fatal attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Governor Uba Sani lauded the troops for their bravery and professionalism, expressing gratitude for their resolute victory. He reiterated his unwavering support for security forces, vowing to sustain cooperation in achieving shared objectives.
