As the 2024 governorship election in Edo State approaches, more All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains have resigned from the party, citing concerns over its internal democracy and leadership.
Former Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Andrew Emwanta, resigned in February, stating that the party’s lack of internal democracy and flawed governorship primaries led to his decision.
Dr. Victoria Amu, a former governorship aspirant, also resigned earlier this month, citing personal and family reasons.
Four more chieftains – Felix Alari, John Uhunwangho, Chief Wilson Ogieva Urhonigbe, and Sunday Iyamu – resigned on May 20, 2024, citing the party’s disorganization, lack of cohesion, and failure to unite ahead of the gubernatorial election.
In their resignation letters, the chieftains expressed frustration with the party’s leadership and direction, stating that it has deviated from its core values and is heading for disaster in the upcoming election.
Their resignations come as the party prepares for the governorship election, raising concerns about its internal stability and chances at the polls.
