The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that a new violence-free state is emerging, despite the killings and chaos experienced during the campaigns for the September 21 governorship election. The party emphasized its focus on promoting transparency and free, fair, and credible elections in the state.
The APC Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, described the allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as baseless and unsubstantiated. He explained that the police arrested a young man with a gun in Uromi, who confessed that the gun was procured by the Chairman of Esan North Local Government Area to fight perceived political enemies, particularly APC members.
Uwadiae-Igbinigie commended the police for their courage and determination in fishing out those involved in the alleged crime, making the state safe for a free and fair election. He encouraged the Edo people to disregard the PDP’s claims of arrest and harassment of its members, as the APC is focused on promoting transparency and free elections.
The APC also called on security agencies to be vigilant and operate above board, as a new Edo is rising where the party shall provide succour to the teeming Edo people.
This statement is a response after the PDP accused the Nigerian Police of conniving with the APC to keep its members out of circulation and called on the international community and civil society organizations to focus on the Edo election.
