The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) scored a major victory against cybercrime. Operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 127 suspected internet fraudsters during a raid in Akure, Ondo State.
The early morning sting operation targeted a “Yahoo Party” held simultaneously at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday. EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests in a statement.
According to the EFCC, credible intelligence indicated the party was originally planned for Wednesday, June 5th. However, the organizers postponed it to Saturday in an attempt to evade detection.
The suspects are cooperating with investigators and have provided valuable information. The EFCC also seized ten luxury cars, phones, laptops, a motorcycle, wristwatches, and various incriminating documents during the operation.
Oyewale stated that the suspects will face court charges once investigations are complete. This successful raid demonstrates the EFCC’s commitment to combating internet fraud in Nigeria.
