The Nigerian Government has taken decisive action against sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, placing them on a watchlist.
Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Services, NIS, Kemi Nandap, revealed this at a strategic meeting convened by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Nandap stated, “We have Diaspora sponsors, they are on our watchlist. They are watchlisted, any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority.”
The Immigration Service has deployed more officers to land borders and airports to ensure effective manning of the country’s entry and exit points.
The Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Yusuf Bichi, disclosed that the agency had unmasked some sponsors, but declined giving further information.
However, he confirmed that some bank accounts had been blocked, and individuals operating these accounts, mostly based abroad, were being monitored.
The government’s crackdown comes after President Bola Tinubu’s order, with the Defence Chief and heads of intelligence and security agencies meeting to implement the directive. The move aims to prevent foreign intervention and maintain national security amidst the ongoing protests.
