Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, Signs Three Bills into Law

The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has signed three crucial bills into law, marking significant strides in the state’s development. The bills signed include the New Enugu City Development Agency Bill, the Enugu State Geographical Information System Service Bill, and the Enugu State Independence Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill.

The signing ceremony took place on Friday evening at the Government House, in the presence of the State House of Assembly Speaker, Uchenna Ugwu. Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of these laws in shaping the future of Enugu.

The New Enugu City Development Agency Law establishes an administrative authority tasked with managing the development of a new city master plan. Governor Mbah stressed the plan’s significance in accommodating both present and future generations’ needs, addressing the growing population and urbanization challenges.

Furthermore, the Enugu State Geographical Information System Service Law focuses on automating and digitizing processes for service delivery, particularly concerning land matters. This move aims to streamline operations and enhance efficiency in land administration.

In a statement from his media office, Governor Mbah expressed the administration’s forward-thinking approach to governance. He highlighted the urgency of expanding Enugu’s city boundaries to prevent overcrowding and ensure sustainable growth.

Governor Mbah stated, “Since the city of Enugu was created, there has not been any attempt to expand the city to be able to accommodate more people. What we have witnessed today is a legal framework that allows us and even future governments to continue to expand the city.”

He underscored the significance of having a master plan for the New Enugu City, providing a roadmap for future development initiatives. Despite potential challenges in implementing the plan, Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of laying the groundwork for future generations.

Governor Mbah also extended gratitude to the State House of Assembly for their unwavering support in advancing the state’s development agenda. He acknowledged the pivotal role of the legislative body in facilitating the passage of these executive bills.

“We cannot progress, and we cannot go on this journey without the support of the State House of Assembly. So, we want to thank you for the speedy passage of these executive bills,” Governor Mbah concluded, reaffirming his commitment to Enugu’s prosperity and sustainable development.
