Enugu traders protest eviction Enugu businessmen,

operating along Red Cross Railway Crossing, Market Road, and Osisatech Polytechnic, protested their eviction after receiving a quit notice from the state government.

They’re urging the government to reconsider its decision to ease tensions and prevent backlash.

The state government aimed to alleviate traffic along Main Market-Old Park-Chris Chemist stretch in Enugu by constructing a flyover, prompting a 14-day ultimatum for businesses to relocate. However, the businessmen, who legally acquired the area from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, objected to what they call a “forceful eviction order.”In a statement signed by David Johnson Anayo, Clement Madichie, Emeka Ezenwa, George Ibekendu, and Onyebuchi Mgbemene, they emphasized their long-standing presence in Enugu and the positive transformation of the previously crime-ridden area.

They argued that the ultimatum was unfair and expressed willingness to consider relocation if the government provided an alternative business location.Credit: Guardian
