Finidi George was officially unveiled as the new head coach of Rivers United, a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, on Wednesday. The unveiling ceremony took place at the club’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Finidi, a former Ajax winger, returns to the dugout just weeks after resigning as Super Eagles head coach. His appointment follows the sacking of long-serving coach Stanley Eguma, who was let go due to poor results last season. Rivers United finished a disappointing eighth in the NPFL.
Finidi has previous experience in the NPFL, having led Enyimba to a title win in the 2022/23 season. His appointment is seen as a move to revitalize Rivers United’s performance and bring success to the club.
