The Senate has pledged to address concerns regarding the recent fuel price hike, while Afenifere and some Representatives demand a reversal of the price increment. Nigerians are struggling with high petrol prices and scarcity, with long queues and black market sales.
Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, called on the Federal Government to order the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to reverse the announced increment. They argued that the timing is wrong, given the current socio-economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
Similarly, Representative Alhassan Doguwa urged the Federal Government to mandate NNPC to revert to the old pump price. He described the situation as unacceptable and pledged his committee’s readiness to tackle revenue loss caused by crude oil theft.
The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, assured Nigerians that relevant committees would examine all issues affecting the public when the National Assembly resumes. The focus will be on the fuel price increase and other constitutional and socio-economic matters impacting the country.
