According to Daily Post, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has distributed 11 transformers of various capacities to different communities in a bid to improve electricity supply across the state.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Umuahia, the governor emphasized that stable electricity is essential for industrialization and economic growth in Abia. He noted that without a reliable power supply, sustaining industrial progress would be challenging.
Governor Otti revealed that the state government had procured 53 transformers in December, with the first batch now being distributed. He explained that distribution is based on a first-come, first-served basis, following a review of applications from various communities.
“We are a blessed and industrious state, and we cannot promote industrialization without reliable electricity. This initiative is part of our effort to achieve that goal,” Otti said.
He urged beneficiary communities to take ownership of the transformers and ensure their protection against vandalism. Community heads were required to sign an attestation of responsibility before receiving the transformers.
“This is taxpayers’ money at work, and it must be handled with care. If you need any support, my office is always open to listen and assist,” he assured.
The governor confirmed that the distribution will continue until all the remaining transformers are allocated to designated communities.
