House of Representatives Committee to Meet with Defence Minister and CDS over ‘Ungoverned Spaces’

The House of Representatives Committee on Defence has invited the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, to discuss how the military plans to secure ‘ungoverned spaces’ occupied by criminals. This move is in response to President Bola Tinubu’s directive to address food security challenges in the country.

According to the Committee Chairman, Babajimi Benson, the meeting will take place on Monday, July 23, 2024. Benson explained that the President’s directive is aimed at ensuring food security, which will in turn reduce insecurity. He suggested that the military should take possession of unused land and cultivate it to achieve this goal.

Benson also commended President Tinubu for championing local government autonomy, which he believes will help address insecurity and development at the grassroots level. He urged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to investigate and halt unfair business practices by foreign companies against Nigerian businesses, such as Air Peace and Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Limited.

The lawmaker expressed concerns over predatory pricing strategies used by foreign companies to undermine Nigerian businesses and called for fairness and justice in business practices in Nigeria.
