The House of Representatives has investigated allegations that controversial cross-dresser Bobrisky bribed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) following his conviction and sentencing for abuse of the naira.
During the hearing, EFCC and NCoS officials denied bribery allegations. The EFCC refuted claims that Bobrisky paid N15 million to drop money laundering charges, while the NCoS insisted Bobrisky served his term at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre, not in a private apartment.
Bobrisky was convicted on April 5, 2024, and sentenced to six months in prison for abuse of the naira. He regained freedom on August 5, 2024, amid allegations of receiving preferential treatment.
A social media influencer, VeryDarkMan, released an audio recording allegedly made by Bobrisky, claiming he paid N15 million to EFCC officials and served his sentence in a private apartment.
The Minister of Interior ordered a probe and suspended several correctional officials. The House of Representatives resolved to invite Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan, EFCC, and NCoS for questioning.
At the hearing, NCoS officials explained Bobrisky’s transfer to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre was for security purposes. VeryDarkMan claimed he obtained the audio recording from someone who lent Bobrisky N4 million.
The EFCC defended dropping money laundering charges, stating Bobrisky pleaded guilty in his confessional statement. The committee demanded medical proof for Bobrisky’s absence due to ill health.
The investigation is still ongoing.
