I am ready to serve that Nation- IheanachoSuper Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has declared his full fitness ahead of Nigeria’s second group game against Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON.
The Leicester City star missed the first game against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday due to a muscle injury but has recovered in time for the crucial clash at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan.
Arriving a day before the first game, Iheanacho’s inclusion in the final 25-man squad was initially uncertain due to his ongoing recovery. However, unlike other players in similar situations, he wasn’t replaced, and he started his rehabilitation at his club.
Despite his recovery for the AFCON, Leicester City coach Enzo Maresca had cautioned that the player was not yet ready for match action. However, the 27-year-old participated in full training on Tuesday after missing the first game and expressed his readiness for the upcoming match.“I’m feeling really good.
I was out for a little bit but I’m ready to go, I’m 100 per cent and ready to serve the nation,” said Iheanacho. Reflecting on the team’s performance in the first game, he emphasized the need for support from Nigerians and conveyed confidence in the team’s capabilities.
In the pre-match conference on Wednesday, Super Eagles coach Peseiro affirmed Iheanacho’s readiness, stating, “He has shown good conditions since he arrived and he is ready.”The Super Eagles, currently with one point in Group A after a draw with Equatorial Guinea, are aiming for a fourth AFCON title.
Their previous triumphs came in 1980, 1994, and 2013. The team is keen to build on the draw in the first game and secure a positive result against Ivory Coast in their quest for AFCON glory.Credit : punch news
