The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the process of delineating electoral wards and polling units in Delta State. The exercise started with a visit to Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area, where officials began delineating wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency.
The move is part of INEC’s efforts to implement the Supreme Court’s ruling, which ordered the reassignment of wards and polling units across three local government areas in Warri. The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, urged the INEC officials to carry out their duties diligently and in accordance with the constitution.
The INEC team, led by Ibrahim Ahmed, Special Data Analyst from INEC National Headquarters, Abuja, assured that they would work according to the constitution and guidelines. Another team member, Buhari Ibrahim, from the Electoral Operations Department, INEC Headquarters, Abuja, explained that the team would identify localities, take coordinates, and demarcate boundaries. He added that INEC would decide on wards and polling units after this stage, ensuring a credible process based on findings and in accordance with the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
