The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has agreed to grant the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) access to electoral materials used in the September 21 Edo State governorship poll.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, Dr. Augbum Onuoha, confirmed that the PDP would be allowed to inspect the materials on Wednesday, following complaints of delay and allegations of manipulation.
The PDP had secured a court order to inspect the materials, including the BIVAS machine, voters register, and ballot papers, to challenge the poll result in court. INEC had declared the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, winner with 291,667 votes.
The Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, accused INEC of employing delay tactics in connivance with the APC to obstruct justice.
The PDP women’s wing staged a protest in Benin City, demanding the return of the allegedly stolen mandate of their candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
