The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a rape allegation made by a 17-year-old girl against a police officer. The girl claims she was raped at Ogudu Police Station by an officer who had promised to help her recover a stolen phone.
According to the victim, the officer offered to assist her after overhearing her recount her ordeal to her mother. However, instead of helping her, he allegedly raped her in his office. The victim’s mother reported that her daughter began bleeding the next day and was taken to the Mirabel Centre for medical attention.
The police have confirmed that a medical examination has been conducted on the victim, and the outcome will determine the officer’s culpability. The result of the medical examination is still pending. If the results prove the allegation true, the police have stated that they will be the first to disclose the officer’s name.
The victim’s mother has accused the police of trying to cover up the case, alleging that the suspect’s family has been pleading with her to drop the matter. The police have assured that they will follow due process and secure a conviction in court if the evidence supports the allegation.
