Israel-Hamas: Over 60 Arrested as Protesters Storm US Capitol
In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, Capitol Police apprehended more than 60 anti-Israel protesters who forcibly entered the historic Rotunda, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The demonstrators, posing as regular tourists, scattered children’s shoes across the Rotunda floor as a poignant symbol of Palestinians killed in the ongoing conflict with Israel. Chanting and in an act of symbolic resistance, they were subsequently placed in handcuffs on the Rotunda floor, in the presence of statues honoring iconic American figures like George Washington, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Harry Truman.
According to the Daily Mail, the group not only voiced their opposition to the violence but also called for the abandonment of President Biden’s proposed $110 billion aid package, often referred to as the ‘deadly deal,’ currently under consideration in the Senate.Since the October 7 Hamas attack, activists advocating for an end to the violence in Gaza have frequently clashed with law enforcement on Capitol Hill. Some have gone to the extent of chaining themselves to the White House fence.
