According to Daily Post, Security agencies, including the Military, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been strategically deployed across the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season. Local vigilante groups are also working in collaboration with the security forces to maintain order during and after the celebrations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, ASP Henry Okoye, this initiative aims to reassure residents, particularly those returning home for the holidays, of their safety throughout the season. The deployment forms part of Christmas and New Year operations designed to guarantee public security.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Hamzat Abdulkardir, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, reiterated the commitment of the security agencies to maintaining peace across the state. He emphasized that joint teams comprising the Police, Military, NSCDC, DSS, and vigilantes are conducting activities such as patrols, intelligence-led operations, and show-of-force exercises to deter criminal activities and strengthen night patrols.
In addition, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Police Traffic Wardens have been mobilized to ensure smooth traffic flow, especially during the busy holiday period.
Security personnel have been urged to uphold professionalism and respect for human rights while carrying out their duties. Authorities assured residents of their readiness to ensure a safe and joyful festive season for all.
