Kano Hisbah Launches Manhunt for 6 TikTokers Over Alleged Vulgar Contents
The Kano State Hisbah Board has initiated a search for six prominent TikTokers in Kano who stand accused of disseminating explicit content on their TikTok and other social media platforms.
The Board asserts that the actions of these individuals, namely Murja Ibrahim Kunya, Abubakar Ibrahim (G-Fresh), Sadiya Haruna, Ashiru Idris (Maiwushirya), Ummee Shakira, and Hassan Makeup, have contravened existing laws and regulations.
This move comes months after Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander-General of the Board, extended an invitation to all female TikTokers in Kano for an interactive session.
During the meeting, the Board extended rehabilitation and empowerment opportunities, including vocational training and scholarships, in an effort to dissuade them from engaging in what was deemed immoral behavior.Sheikh Daurawa, in an address, urged all social media entertainers to refrain from posting content that could promote immorality in society.
He clarified in an interview with BBC Hausa Service that the Board’s primary goal was to ensure entertainers refrained from sharing inappropriate content and stressed that repeated arrests were not the Board’s intention.Despite signing an undertaking with the Hisbah Board to uphold good behavior and comply with the rules, it appears that the TikTokers were not adhering to the agreement.
This prompted the Hisbah Board to launch a manhunt for those who violated the terms.Sheikh Daurawa expressed the Board’s reluctance to immediately prosecute offenders, emphasizing a desire to achieve compliance rather than resorting to punitive measures.
Daurawa disclosed that the Hisbah Board had engaged with TikTok representatives in Lagos, where assurances were given about promptly deleting accounts found to have violated rules, such as breaching the peace or insulting religions, whenever a report is filed.“This is even more effective than arresting the TikTok users.
It is more painful for a TikTok user to have their accounts deleted after gathering so many followers,” Sheikh Daurawa remarked. The six popular TikTokers are among the most followed content creators in Northern Nigeria and had previously clashed with the Hisbah Board over their content.Credit : Leadership newspaper
