The Kogi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated suspension proceedings against Senator Dino Melaye for his recent statement declaring the party dead. The party’s elders, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, announced this in a statement on Sunday, stating that Melaye’s actions have become a burden to the party.
According to the statement, Melaye’s political ambitions have crumbled, and he can no longer secure even a local councilor position. The party blames Melaye for its current struggles, claiming his nomination was a significant misstep that led to the party’s present predicament.
The Kogi PDP has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reevaluate their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they described as a “bondage” and a “big-time liability” for the party.
The move to suspend Melaye is seen as an effort to restore the party’s integrity and focus on viable leadership. The party’s elders have accused Melaye of hypocrisy, stating that he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election.
