Lagos Market Set On Fire By Hoodlums During a Clash.
Tensions erupted into violence at Ile-Epo Market in Lagos State, leaving many injured and properties destroyed as clashes between rival groups spiraled out of their control.
The unrest, which commenced Wednesday night, persisted well into Thursday morning, resulting in the burning of several shops, in the process, many goods were lost in the fire.
In fact, emergency services were hindered of carrying out their duties as it was attacked with stones by hostile crowd. Firefighters deemed the work too difficult to proceed.
Efforts by law enforcement to contain the mob faced resistance, a spokesperson of the Lagos State Police said, “Our team was dispatched promptly, but the intensity of the mob and their hostility hampered our intervention efforts,”
The police have assured that order would be restored in the area where the occurrence took place.
Emergency services encountered formidable obstacles as well, with a Lagos State Fire Service truck forced to retreat under a hail of stones upon attempting to access the scene for firefighting operations.
While investigations and cleanup are ongoing, the market remains closed by authorities for safety reasons.
