LAWMAKERS TO RECEIVE VEHICLES; SAYS HOUSE OF REP SPOKESPERSON

Lawmakers To Receive vehicles In Coming Weeks, says House Spokesperson.
Hon. Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, has officially confirmed that the National Assembly bureaucracy is in the process of acquiring and distributing operational vehicles to its members in the upcoming weeks and months.

In a statement released on Sunday, Rotimi emphasized the need for this clarification due to various reports in the media regarding the allocation of vehicles to lawmakers. He stated, “While there have been differing accounts of this story, we can confirm that the National Assembly bureaucracy is gradually procuring and distributing operational vehicles to honorable members in the coming weeks and months.”

Rotimi pointed out that this practice aligns with existing procurement laws and has been a customary procedure in previous assemblies. He also highlighted that it is not unique to the legislature, as non-elected government officials in the Executive branch, typically at the director level and above, often have official vehicles assigned to their roles.

He added, “It’s essential to clarify a few points. The vehicles allocated to the offices of honorable members are utility vehicles intended for their work in oversight functions within the standing committees. They are not personal gifts to the members. Throughout the 10th assembly’s tenure (2023 – 2027), these vehicles will remain the property of the National Assembly. After the 10th Assembly’s term concludes in 2027, if the government’s existing asset deboarding policy remains in effect, honorable members may choose to purchase the vehicles at their outstanding value before they become their personal property; otherwise, they will remain the National Assembly’s assets.”
