Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has appealed to Abuja youths not to participate in the planned nationwide protests against hunger and hardship from August 1 to 10. Wike made this plea during a meeting with FCT youths from Abuja South Federal Constituency in Kwali Area Council.
The minister emphasized that the current administration has achieved significant progress in various sectors, including education, health, and security, despite being in office for less than a year. He argued that it is unfair to judge the government’s performance within such a short timeframe.
Wike expressed gratitude to traditional rulers and area council chairmen for mobilizing youths to engage in discussions against joining the protests. He stressed that peace, not protest, is essential for the FCT’s development.
Additionally, Wike provided updates on the proposed Federal Capital Territory University of Science and Technology, Abaji, and addressed land matters, emphasizing the need for infrastructure development and consideration for indigenous people’s living spaces.
The minister concluded by urging youths to cooperate with the government and avoid participating in protests with unclear agendas.
