The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has commenced an assessment of the damage caused by recent floods in 513 communities across Kogi State.
According to N-HYPPADEC’s Director, Finance and Administration, Jimoh Haruna Gabi, the commission is working tirelessly to understand and address the needs of residents affected by the floods.
Gabi assured that the commission feels the pain of those affected and is committed to providing necessary interventions.
The assessment aims to identify areas requiring attention, including infrastructure, education, security, economic activities, agriculture, and healthcare.
In the past, N-HYPPADEC has implemented various projects in Kogi State, including the construction of primary schools, payment of school fees for indigent students, and provision of hand water pump boreholes.
Additionally, the commission has trained thousands of youths, distributed motorcycles to security agencies, introduced boats for water transportation, conducted medical outreach programs in riverine communities, installed solar street lights, and initiated housing projects.
Gabi advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher grounds, emphasizing that their safety is paramount.
The commission’s efforts are geared towards improving the living standards of affected communities and providing necessary support.
N-HYPPADEC has been working closely with local authorities to ensure effective intervention and relief measures.
