Navy Intercepts 187 bags of illegal drugs in Lagos
The Nigerian Navy intercepted 187 bags of cannabis sativa in different locations in Lagos, including an uncompleted building at Apakin Village in Ibeju Lekki, Eleko Beach in Lekki, and the Badagry Creeks.
Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, stated that the seizures resulted from intelligence gathered through the Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment. The patrol team first seized 58 bags in the uncompleted building, followed by 129 bags at Eleko Beach and Badagry Creek, totaling about 187 bags weighing 8,000 kg.
Upon spotting the naval team, the suspects abandoned the narcotics and fled, allowing the team to secure the illicit drugs. Oguntuga mentioned that the Quick Response Team deployed based on credible intelligence on suspicious activities at Apakin Village.
He highlighted the commitment of the navy in combating illegalities and emphasized that the confiscated narcotics had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action. Oguntuga reiterated the Navy’s dedication to reducing the impact of drugs on national security.
