The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has successfully trained 200 women and youths in livestock farming and agro-processing in Delta State.
The training, held at Okiemutie farms in Eku Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area, aimed to address unemployment and poverty through agriculture. NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized the importance of agriculture in diversifying the economy.
Dr. Ogbuku, represented by Dr. Winifred Madume, NDDC Director of Agric and Fisheries, encouraged the graduates to apply their newfound knowledge and skills to contribute to the region’s livestock sector development.
The program, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), provides apprenticeship opportunities for Niger Delta residents. The initiative prioritizes women, who make up the majority of farmers in the region.
By empowering local farmers, the NDDC seeks to boost the regional economy and reduce poverty. This effort aligns with the Commission’s goal of promoting sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.
