In a bid to alleviate the suffering of female orphans who lost their parents to banditry attacks, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has announced plans to sponsor the mass marriage of 100 such orphans from Mariga Local Government Area.
Sarkindaji, who represents the Mariga Constituency, disclosed that he would pay the dowries for the bridegrooms and has procured all necessary materials for the ceremony, slated for May 24 at Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area.
The orphans, carefully selected from a list of 170 names submitted, will have the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, serve as their guardians during the ceremony.
The event, part of the Speaker’s constituency empowerment project, aims to provide a better life for the impoverished orphans. Notably, the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, is expected to attend the ceremony.
