The Nigerian Army has denied rumors circulating on social media that Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has passed away. Sources from Army Headquarters confirmed that Lagbaja is critically ill, but not deceased.
A social media post had claimed Lagbaja died from cancer 48 hours prior, sparking widespread speculation. However, an Army source clarified that Lagbaja is currently out of the country for medical treatment.
In a separate development, the Nigerian Army held a ceremony to honor 15 retiring Generals from the Artillery Corps. The event, held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kaduna State, saw 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals formally pulled out of service.
Major General James Myam (retd), speaking on behalf of the retirees, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Lagbaja. Myam emphasized the importance of loyalty and vigilance, reflecting on their long military careers.
Lagbaja, appointed Chief of Army Staff in June 2023, has had a distinguished military career. Born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, he has held notable positions including General Officer Commanding Headquarters 82 Division and Director of Operations at Army Headquarters.
