The Super Eagles and Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, has turned down a new contract offer from the club amidst interest from Aston Villa.
From the beginning of this season, Iheanacho has been limited to just 10 league starts. The club’s manager, Enzo Maresca preferring Patson Daka to lead the line.
Even in his limited appearances for Leicester, Iheanacho has scored five goals and created one, averaging a goal involvement every two games.
Iheanacho’s contract expires in June 2024, and he is not keen on extending his stay at the King Power Stadium.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho is the highest-scoring African in the history of the FA Cup, but the Nigerian striker has rejected an improved deal with a weekly wage of £65,000.
Aston Villa, led by Unai Emery, are interested in signing Iheanacho as a backup for Ollie Watkins.
The Villains have had a great season and are eyeing a place in the UEFA Champions League next season. Iheanacho would have the opportunity to play alongside skilled players like Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, Ollie Watkins, and Moussa Diaby.
Iheanacho’s decision to reject the contract offer is likely due to his limited playing time, and he may be seeking a new challenge with more opportunities to play regularly.
