NLC Meets Today, Set to Embark on an Indefinite Strike
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), along with its state chapters and affiliated unions, is preparing for a potential nationwide strike after the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum given to the federal government. This ultimatum was issued in response to the government’s removal of subsidies and the demand for palliatives to alleviate the resulting hardships. Previously, the organized labor conducted a two-day warning strike to emphasize their demands.
Following the expiration of the ultimatum on Friday, September 22, the NLC has convened an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council, scheduled for today, Tuesday, September 26. The council will determine the next course of action.
Joe Ajaero, the National President of the NLC, expressed dissatisfaction, stating that “none of the demands presented to the Federal Government have been addressed.”
