According to Daily Post, peace has been restored to the Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, following tensions that arose from the recent election of a new monarch.
The crisis began after Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe was announced as the monarch-elect, a decision initially challenged by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Matters, Hon. TonyCollins Nwabunwanne. The election was conducted to fill the vacancy left by the late monarch, Igwe PC Ezenwa.
However, a community leader clarified that the election adhered to due process and dismissed claims that Governor Chukwuma Soludo opposed the process.
On Monday, the dispute was resolved as Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe was officially installed as the new monarch, HRM Engr Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe. The installation ceremony, led by the elder of Urueze, known as ‘Aka ji Ofo Oba,’ and other elders of the nine villages in the community, involved the presentation of the Ọfọ Oba, a symbol of authority and leadership.
The rites took place at the ancient Okuana Oba shrine in Urueze, the eldest village in the community. Following the traditional ceremony, the new king proceeded to St. Bethel Anglican Church, where he dedicated his crown and leadership to God.
This resolution brings an end to the leadership dispute, symbolizing a new chapter of unity and progress for the Oba community.
