The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to addressing the challenge of high food prices in the country. During the harvest of fish by Ado-Odo/Ota Fish farmers’ clusters, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, disclosed that the government has implemented various interventions and support for farmers to boost food production and supply, ultimately reducing food prices.
The state government supported over 1000 fish farmers grouped into three clusters with over 72 bags of feed each, with the farmers paying 70% and the government paying the balance of 30%. This initiative aims to ensure that food prices in the market are brought down. Owotomo emphasized that this effort aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to increase food production and mitigate the rising cost of food in the country.
The Ogun State Government’s support for fish farmers is part of its deliberate efforts to improve productivity and aid farmers. The Project Manager, Oluseyi Olugbire, commended the farmers for their commitment and assured that more farmers will be accommodated to ensure food abundance in the state. The Director of Fishery, Niyi Opebiyi, also acknowledged the support of OGSTEP, which has helped farmers across the state.
The OGSTEP Aquaculture Coordinator for Ado Odo Ota LG, Ebenezer Jinadu, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support and requested government assistance in rehabilitating roads in the area to enhance mobility and ease the lives of residents.
