Mobin Media has received exclusive information that the Chairman of MOBIN, Barr Dr Emeka Emekesiri (Nzeobi II of Okwara-Unegbu Amucha Imo State), and the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Dr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, held a Meeting on Saturday, 18 May 2024, at Owerri Imo State, to discuss the way forward for the Igbo Nation. The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo had invited the Chairman of MOBIN to discuss the vision of MOBIN whose vision is TO RESTORE THE PEACE AND DIGNITY OF IGBO NATION.
The Chairman of MOBIN did not mince words but spoke the hard truth to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to make him understand the reality on the ground. His speech was like a tonic lecture that awoke and stirred up the spirit of the lion in the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The speech of the Chairman is summarised as follows:
1. Ohanaeze Ndigbo has disappointed the youths of Igbo Nation and lost its power to manage and control the youths. The Elders of Igboland do not understand and share the feelings and frustrations of the youths. Therefore, the youths have rebelled against the Elders and described Ohanaeze Ndigbo as “Ohanaeze Ndioshi” and “saboteurs” and “traitors” and “Judas Iscariots of Igboland”.
2. Ohanaeze Ndigbo is like the father of all Igbo people which should govern the people under Customary Law, but it has failed. If by a natural disaster or anarchy or an act of God beyond human control the country called Nigeria disintegrates today, Ohanaeze Ndigbo will not be able to gather its children together because the children have rebelled against the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Other regions would be peaceful, but the East would be in anarchy. Already there is anarchy and lawlessness in the East with their sit-at-home order every Monday while other regions are peaceful.
3. In comparison with the North and West, the people of Arewa have passed their Sharia Government Bill into law and established the Sharia Government in the North with their own Sharia Police called the HISBA Police while the West has the AMOTEKUN for the Oduduwa people backed by their States Legislation. But the Igbo Nation refused to pass the Customary Government Bill into law which could have been a very good structure to hold the Igbo Nation together. We have NDINCHE under Customary Law which is like the Hisba under Sharia Law. It is pertinent to note that both the Sharia Law and Customary Law are recognised by the Nigerian Constitution. While the Northerners used the Sharia Law to build a government structure for themselves within Nigeria, the people of the East refused to use the Customary Law to build a structure to govern themselves.
4. The Igbo People are tired of Nigeria as it is presently constituted and are therefore agitating for self-determination either by restructuring and devolution of power to the regions within Nigeria just like Scotland governs itself within Britain or as an outright independent nation by whatever name they decide to adopt. MOBIN has carried out the necessary studies and research and concluded that Restructuring of Nigeria by devolution of power to the regions is the best alternative for all regions in Nigeria.
5. Consequently, MOBIN has submitted and presented the Memorandum to the National Assembly to restructure Nigeria by way of devolution of power to the six geopolitical regions of Nigeria so that every region will govern itself and develop at its own pace just as Britain has four autonomous self-governing regions called Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
6. Ohanaeze Ndigbo is expected to be in the frontline of the struggle for self-determination, but it is indifferent and callous to the sufferings of the people. Therefore, a leadership vacuum was created which some charlatans and imposters hijacked and presented themselves as the leaders of Igbo Nation, and by powerful radio propaganda, they drew the youths away from the Elders of Igboland. There is no peace in Igboland anymore because the rebellious children have hijacked power. However, they may think that they have power, but they do not have authority. Power and Authority are two different things.
7. MOBIN has come to restore the peace and dignity of Igbo Nation. It is registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission with noble objects. It is the organization that presented the Memorandum to the National Assembly for Restructuring and Devolution of Power. One of its registered objects is to provide community government services. It has the capacity to restore the peace and dignity of Igbo Nation. The Chairman of MOBIN is the vision bearer for self-determination by legal methodology and political diplomacy.
Upon hearing this lecture from the Chairman, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said that it was the best lecture he had ever heard about the issue of self-determination. He agreed with the Chairman that the British model of having many nations in one country is the best for Nigeria so that every region will govern itself and develop at its own pace. He promised to discuss with the Governors about passing the Customary Government Bill into law just as the Sharia Government Bill was passed into law by the Northern States. He expressed great joy that MOBIN has presented the best solution for the benefit of everybody. Consequently, he gave the mandate to the Chairman of MOBIN to do everything necessary to restore the peace and dignity of Igbo Nation and bring the rebellious children back to the Elders for the peace, dignity, and unity of Igbo Nation.
